By Independent Mon News Agency – A bomb went off this morning in Myawaddy Township at the Post and Telegram office near the Thai-Burmese border crossing in Mae Sot, Thailand.

An ethnic Mon car driver in Myawaddy reported that the bomb blasted outside the Post and Telegram Office. There were no casualties and minimal damage.

“The office is located in the town of Myawaddy and it [the bomb] exploded at 7:30 am,” he added.

This bomb blast comes after two other violent outbreaks, a bomb blast in Naypyidaw yesterday, where two people were killed and a policeman shot by an armed group in Mudon last week.

The Burmese authorities are investigating the blasts. Thus far, no one has claimed responsibility for the blasts.

Bombs have exploded several times in Myawaddy since the town was seized by a breakaway faction of the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army, Brigade 5, led by Brig-Gen Saw Lah Pwe on November 8th in 2010. Yet, Burmese authorities have not arrested the bombers.

Myawaddy is located near two active Karen ethnic armed groups: the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army and Karen National Union, both fighting against the Burmese government.
