The two senior members of MNLA who plan to retire are Commander Nai Janau Chan and Captain Nai Bot. Both sent their resignation letters to the party in March.

“They have proposed their resignation to us. However, the party has not yet given them permission to resign. The party’s leaders will have a meeting to discuss this matter,” said Nai Hong Sar Pon Khaing.

“They explained to us that they have problems with their families, as well as health problems,” he said.

Speaking to Independent Mon News Agency, Commander Janau Chan said, “I have a problem with my family members for their future, especially for the children.”

“I am not resigning because I have any problems with my party,” he explained.

Captain Nai Bot denied that he had sent a resignation letter to his party when the IMNA contacted him, saying, “I have not sent a letter proposing my resignation”. He refused to talk further about the matter.

The NMSP rejected the Burmese Army’s offer to serve as a Border Guard Force in April of last year. The party accepted a ceasefire with the regime in 1995, and many senior leaders from the party, including soldiers, have resigned during the period of the ceasefire.

Senior leaders who have resigned from the NMSP include Nai Chan Toi, who is Central Executive Committee (CEC) and Joint Secretary General, Nai Tin Aung (CEC), Nai Nyan Tun (Chairman, District Administration), Nai Lawee Mon (Chairman, District Administration), Nai Aung Shein (Chairman, District Administration), Nai Enn Dein (Chairman, District Administration), Nai Aung Shein (Central Committee, Senior Officer), Nai Soe Myint (CC), Nai Htaw Enn (Senior Officer), and Nai Pan Hla (CC, Senior Officer).

Those who have resigned from the MNLA include General Aung Naing, Colonel Kao Rot, Colonel Myint Swe, Colonel Nai Shaung, Colonel Pan Nyunt , Colonel Ko Tar, Lt. Colonel Kyaw Soe, Major Tin Hla, Major Khin Aung, Major Khin Soe, and Major Chan Dein.
