IMNA : Three individuals in possession of 2.2 million kyat worth of counterfeit bills were arrested on Sunday, August 22th, at the A Nan Kwin check point, in Karen State’s Three Pagodas Pass Sub-Township (TPP).

IMNA’s field reporter confirmed that the three perpetrators were one Nai Sein, his wife Mi Mu, and an unknown Thai individual; all three are residents of TPP, and were traveling with the fake bills to Thanphyuzayat town.

The trio allegedly left by boat from the Kyun Chaung river gate on Sunday, and transferred into a car at the A Nan Kwin  checkpoint, where they were detained and searched by members of the Burmese government’s Tactical Command.

“About 2.2 million in fake money has been [confiscated], two Mon  people and one Thai person, the two Mon people lived in TPP at township quarter 2. They [Nai Sein and Mi Mu] are the owners of a car [going] from TPP to Thanphyuzayat town,” said a Three Pagoda Pass resident.

This source also reported that roughly 1,000 individual bills were seized from Nai Sein and his partners.

Following their arrest, TPP sources claim that the three were reportedly given sent to the control of the Southeast Command in Moulmein, Mon State; further details of their status are not available.

IMNA’s field reporter also stated that rumors circulating in TPP indicate that  6 million kayt in fake bills is still hidden in TPP town.

Authorities are still searching for partners of the arrested trio, but IMNA’s reporter claims that any accomplices seem to have already fled the area.
